Hyundai Elantra Transmission Fluid Capacity
The Hyundai Elantra is a popular compact car that has been in production since 1990. It is known for its fuel efficiency, affordability, and reliability. The Elantra is available with a variety of engine and transmission options, including a manual transmission, an automatic transmission, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Transmission Fluid Capacity
The transmission fluid capacity of a Hyundai Elantra varies depending on the year, model, and transmission type. However, the following are the general transmission fluid capacities for Hyundai Elantras:
- Manual Transmission: 2.1 quarts
- Automatic Transmission: 3.3 quarts
- CVT: 7.2 quarts
Checking the Transmission Fluid Level
It is important to check the transmission fluid level regularly to ensure that it is at the proper level. To check the transmission fluid level, follow these steps:
- Park the Elantra on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Open the hood and locate the transmission fluid dipstick.
- Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
- Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid tube.
- Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level.
The transmission fluid level should be between the “FULL” and “ADD” marks on the dipstick. If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate amount of transmission fluid. Be sure to use the type of transmission fluid that is recommended in your Elantra’s owner’s manual.
Changing the Transmission Fluid
The transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, or as specified in your Elantra’s owner’s manual. To change the transmission fluid, follow these steps:
- Park the Elantra on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Open the hood and locate the transmission fluid drain plug.
- Place a drain pan under the drain plug.
- Loosen the drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain out.
- Once the transmission fluid has drained out, tighten the drain plug.
- Locate the transmission fluid fill plug.
- Add the appropriate amount of transmission fluid to the transmission.
- Be sure to use the type of transmission fluid that is recommended in your Elantra’s owner’s manual.
- Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
Changing the transmission fluid is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about an hour. However, if you are not comfortable working on your own car, you can have the transmission fluid changed by a qualified mechanic.
